In addition, the demographic data has been expanded to include newly discovered US State Department documents on Iran’s pre-1914 population. This book also includes a new chapter with a detailed military and political history of Iran in World War I. A work of enduring value, Majd provides a comprehensive account of Iran’s greatest calamity.

An eye-opening look at investing

We've all read investment guides in the hopes of maximizing our returns. Many are interesting. Some are entertaining. Few are useful. Professor Blum's book is all of those things. It's actually two books in one - a guide to negotiation and a guide to applying those lessons to investing. I picked up ideas here I had not seen elsewhere.

Valuable advice instead of get rich quick schemes

This is not the kind of book that tells you how to use fancy investing tricks to make millions in the stock market. And that’s why you should read it. The author pulls no punches on what investing is all about. He admits that investing can be very tricky and full of deceptive practices. That, of course, is why you need to know how to negotiate. I’ve been an investor for a long time and I’ve never even thought of many of the TECHNIQUES Blum teaches. The best part is that his negotiating tips ARE VERY valuable outside investing. You can use them in all areas of your life. He definitely gives you something to think about. A great read for experienced and inexperienced investors alike!

The winner of Spain's 1978 National Prize for Literature, Gaite's postmodern novel interweaves dreams and fantasies with autobiography and Spanish history, resulting in a book that is complex and elusive, but more than worth the effort. The main character, partially based on the author, narrates with an artful, mystifying self-reflectiveness that would be irritating in less sure hands but that works quite magically in this multi-layered tale. The plot is deceptively simple: the protagonist (also a writer) is awakened from sleep by a male journalist who ostensibly has come to interview her about her work. The author begins to muse about her past, but is interrupted by a phone call from the journalist's female companion, who becomes an integral part of the story. At the end the writer's grown daughter awakens her mother, but it is not clear whether the interview belonged to dream, fantasy, memory or reality. Several intriguing themes run throughout: multi-dimensional time and memory, the effects of the repressive Franco regime on the Spanish middle class, and the conscious, and more mysterious, aspects of the writing process. Gaite also provides an acute analysis of the theatrical performances at the heart of male/female relations, and a touching, honest, semi-autobiographical portrait. The language in this fine translation is sensual and lucid: the tastes, smells and customs of postwar Spain are vivid, and emotions, and ideas have a dream logic that is both evocative and precise. Unintelligible in any language

I bought the English translation, because we are studying this work in a Spanish literature class, and I found it to be very difficult going. Turns out that it wasn't the Spanish that was the problem, it was the "novel"!! It is a confusing and obscurantist navel-gazing exercise, which is, however, full of clever and witty asides, and insights into life in Franco's Spain. Why should anybody want to read a book about the writer writing a book, which is probably the very same book that s/he now holds in his or her hand? Narcissism is not a compelling trait.

A Stand Out Series

I have really enjoyed Mr. Chesser's series so far (finished book 3).

There are some things that really stand out that make this different than many of the books out there. First, Mr. Chesser can write intelligently about the things that are happening, or exist, in his stories. Prime examples are his understanding of firearms and military equipment. I don't know if this is through personal experience, or through research, but too often you see minor giveaways in this genre that take away from the believability (such as a military person referring to a magazine as a "clip").

Second, he takes the time to develop charactors who he has every intention of killing off ASAP. This means, not every major charactor survives, and that is what we expect from a zom-poc.

There was only one thing that had me thinking..."Oh, come on...", but that happened in book 2, so I'll not bring it up here.

It's a must read!

Good read.

This was a good read especially for the price. I thought it was well written. This appears to be his first novel, but you wouldn't know that from reading the book. I didn't see any inaccuracies or anything that required me to suspend reality with the exception of people rising from the dead. But that is to be expected from the title of the book. If you like the zombie and/or the post apocalypse genre, you will like this book.

Doesn't work well at all...

This is the worst e-book I've ever used. The information is all there, which is the only reason it's not receiving one star. The formatting is awful, the table of contests is poorly organized, and the links to various sections of the book don't work--forcing you to manually scroll page by page through the textbook. Thank God I'm only renting it and didn't pay to purchase it!

About the Author
Olimpo Anaya-Lara is a Lecturer in the Institute for Energy and Environment at the University of Strathclyde, UK. Over the course of his career, he has successfully undertaken research on power electronic equipment, control systems development, and stability and control of power systems with increased wind energy penetration. He was a member of the International Energy Agency Annexes XXI Dynamic models of wind farms for power system studies and XXIII Offshore wind energy technology development. He is currently a Member of the IEEE and IET, and has published 2 technical books, as well as over 80 papers in international journals and conference proceedings.

Nick Jenkins was at the University of Manchester (UMIST) from 1992 to 2008. In 2008 he moved to Cardiff University where he is now the Professor of Renewable Energy. His career includes 14 years of industrial experience, 5 of which were spent in developing countries. His final position before joining the university was as a Projects Director for the Wind Energy Group, a manufacturer of large wind turbines. He is a Fellow of the IET, IEEE and Royal Academy of Engineering. In 2009 and 2010 he was the Shimizu visiting professor at Stanford University.

Janaka Ekanayake joined Cardiff University as a Senior Lecturer in June 2008 from the University of Manchester where he was a Research Fellow. Since 1992 he has been attached to the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and was promoted to a Professor in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2003. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a Member of IET. His main research interests include power electronic applications for power systems, renewable energy generation and its integration. He has published more than 25 papers in refereed journals and has also coauthored a book.

Phill Cartwright has 20 years of industrial experience in the research, analyses, design and implementation of flexible power systems architectures and projects with ABB, ALSTOM and AREVA in Brazil, China, Europe, India and the USA. He is currently the Head of the global Electrical & Automation Systems business for Rolls-Royce Group Plc, providing integrated power systems products and technology for Civil Aerospace, Defence Aerospace, Marine Systems, New Nuclear and emerging Tidal Generation markets and developments. He is a visiting professor in Power Systems at The University of Strathclyde, UK.

Mike Hughes graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1961 with first class honours in electrical engineering. His initial career in the power industry was with the Associated Electrical Industries and The Nuclear Power Group, working on network analysis and control scheme design. From 1971 to 1999, he was with the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology teaching and researching in the areas of power system dynamics and control. He is currently a part-time Research Fellow with Imperial College, London and a consultant in power plant control and wind generation systems.

Good Book to an extent

I bought this book to assist with my dissertation and while it does provide a lot of the theory behind wind power and wind generation, I thought it would've been a little more indepth, especially the chapter about Integration of Wind Energy... Anyways still a very useful book
