Review
The Hum II is on its way. Find out what is really behind the strange humming sound, what is hiding out inside the tunnel.

From the Author
I wrote this novel about a year ago, and then I happened to see a special on the TV show Unsolved Mysteries about the Taos Hum; it was then that I learned that the humming sound was being heard in other parts of the US as well.

From the Inside Flap
This novel is based on an actual US Congressional investigation into the Taos Hum, and the show Unsolved Mysteries did a special on the hum back in 1995.

Caveat Lector
By SavoirNoir
So, I was SHOCKED when I read the author was a Christian book author. In reading it, as of the ending of what is evidently book 1 of a series (more on that in a moment), I was under the impression that the author was absolutely anti-religious. The book, as a self-contained unit, really seems to portray Christianity in a bad light. Maybe that impression will be adjusted in book 2 in the series, which I read in another review, is being written now.

Now, on to just this book:
The story starts off okay, and the mystery is pretty cool. The Hum is a terrifying and enigmatic presence. And the briefly seen monster is really kind of cool in the fact that that is everywhere and grows in the telling. Nice!

However, the author makes most of the characters VERY unlikable. We have multiple murderers running around. A priest tells one of these murderers that his ex-wife deserved him murdering her. A person in the book mentions that a woman deserved to die because she was a "LOOSE" (really, in capitals! Who does that?) woman.

The ending is VERY abrupt, and kind of unfair We see characters that we sympathize for that are crumpled and then miraculously, they are suddenly alive. It really read like the author couldn't be unflinching with the characters.

Lastly, the author REALLY needs an editor. Homonym abuse. Quoting paragraph issues. Things like that really kind of derailed the enjoyable parts of the reading. I grew to dread conversations (which were kind of expositional at times, but those were venal sins) because of the quoting issues.

The big question is whether or not I want to read book 2: Sigh. Yes. Yes, I do. The author does carry the story along. I hope the denouement of the story is worth wading through the above problems

Enjoyable

I enjoyed this book for the most part, however I was disappointed in the ending. The author assures me that he is writing book 2 and it will answer the questions left hanging in this book.

Really didn't care for this one
By Phyllis
I don't know who gave this book 5 stars. I'm glad I didn't buy it but I'm sorry I wasted my 1 free book for the month on this one. It doesn't appear to have been edited at all. The story is just, well, stupid. The author manages to offend probably everyone who lives in New Mexico and surely anyone who is Catholic. I kept reading thinking it would get better....I finally gave up and went on to something else about halfway through. This is a truly bad book.
