Perfect ending to one of my favorite series!

NOTE: this review is being posted a couple of days after I finished the book BECAUSE I HAD TO READ IT AGAIN as soon as I finished it. Yep! It was that good.

I finally got my hands on the fifth and final book in this series! At the same time I'm very sad to see it go. Very, very sad. At least I can reread this series! (as I'm currently doing)

This is Shannon's book, though we get cameos from all the previous characters. Yay! Shannon thinks she needs to be turned into a vampire, and there are a few single male vampires that are happy to do this for her. But is that what's best for her? And why does Asher keep looking at her like that? Ahhh... there's so much I can say but I don't want to spoil any of it! Does Shannon have her own abilities that will help the others? I'm not gonna tell you! You have to read it yourself.

This is the end of the series, and author C. C. Wood definitely did this series right. We have suspense, we have action, we have steamy scenes and humor, and this book wrapped up the entire series nicely giving us enough closure while leaving us wanting just a little more. (Maybe if we bug the author, we can get a couple novellas to continue these characters, huh C.C. Wood???) This is a 100% complete, HEA series people! Read it!

But WAIT! There's more! Because at the end of the book, the author tells us that she will write a NEW series called 'Blood and Bone', which will continue the stories of several characters from these books that maybe didn't get their HEA's! Oh! That means we get to read more about.... NOPE... not gonna name the characters I'm hoping for. I don't want to jinx anything. I'm just excited that some of these other characters' stories will continue!

Not what I expected

A bit of a let down. I loved Asher but Shannon's constant need for independence was annoying at times. I get that she is a strong and "skilled" woman (she reminded us of it every other page) but she fought Asher on EVERYTHING! It was just a bit much. But the biggest let down was the fight scene. I guess I expected something more epic. I expected all 5 to join forces...hence the Prophecy of the 5. For the last 4 books we've been reading about the Prophecy of the 5, how there was a reason and purpose for each of them, yet other than being in the room, Ivie, Donna, and Rickie didn't do anything! What was the point to that? With their powers/skills so vamped up in their individual books, I was expecting them to ban together to take out the threat. I guess I completely misunderstood the purpose of the previous books.

Thrilling ending to a great series

What a great ending to a wonderful paranormal series. Shannon is one tough chick and she's not as surprised as the others about things that go bump in the night. Asher is the sexy vampire who is tasked with helping Shannon prepare for the battle with the Faction. One look at Asher and Shannon felt her soul settle. There's nothing like soul mates, vampires, hot sex, and battle for survival. CC Wood's Bitten series has taken the readers on a epic journey of self discovery, fate, love, sex, friendship, and ties that bind. I've loved every second of this journey and I'm sad it's over but what a awesome way for it to end. If you love vampires, shifters, and things that go bump in the night then read the Bitten series.

Rainbow Fish, "the most beautiful fish in the entire ocean," refuses to share his prized iridescent scales--which, indeed, flash and sparkle like prisms as each page is turned. When his greed leaves him without friends or admirers, the lonely fish seeks advice from the wise octopus, who counsels him to give away his beauty and "discover how to be happy." The translation from the original German text doesn't enhance the story's predictable plot, and lapses into somewhat vague descriptions: after sharing a single scale, "a rather peculiar feeling came over Rainbow Fish." Deep purples, blues and greens bleed together in Pfister's liquid watercolors; unfortunately, the watery effect is abruptly interrupted by a few stark white, text-only pages. Ages 4-8.

Adult suspicions of the gimmick overwhelming the story quickly fade as the plot unfolds: none of the other fish will have anything to do with the Rainbow Fish, who always swims by superciliously and refuses to give away any of his special garb. He is lonely and without admirers until a wise female octopus advises him to give away his scales. Rainbow Fish then discovers that sharing brings happiness and acceptance. The delicate watercolors of underwater scenes are a perfect foil to the glittering scales that eventually form a part of each fish's exterior. This is certainly a story written to convey a message, but in its simplicity, it recalls the best of Lionni. Extraordinary Imaging and Classic Story Line

I bought this book for my two-year-old daughter. She loves me to read to her every night before bed time. This is one of my child's favorite books to have read to her. I always enjoyed reading this book as I grew up so I knew for a fact that my daughter would enjoy this book just as much as I always had. I would recommend the hardback copy of this book. The pages have magnificent illustrations and my daughter loves the way "The Rainbow Fish" sparkles. Besides the extraordinary imaging, the story line is classic. Great story line to teach your young ones about the importance of generosity and the effectiveness of greed. I would highly recommend this book to any parents that want to get their children interested in reading!

heart warming and profoundly delightful

This is one of my all-time favorite books. I can't even count how many times it's made me cry. It instills a very good lesson about sharing so everyone is happy. the illustrations are so beautiful as well. there is a lot of talk about shine, shimmer, sparkle. every kid loves shiny things. even the big kids.

When two children find the body of retired governess Phoebe (Nanny) Gray, Supt. Bone goes to Saxhurst to investigate. Nanny's close friend, psychic Emily Playfair, proves a source of information on the residents, and the detective visits each in search of one with a reason for killing the old woman, supposedly beloved by all. Those who could have had murderous motives, however, include Sir Valentine Herne and his wife, Lady Fiona, impoverished since Nanny inherited a fortune from Val's brother; the wife of a rich Arab, Mrs. Abduraman, who lavished gifts on but privately feared Nanny; also the victim's niece and legatee, Carey Sidgewick. Casting his net further, Bone interviews international rock star Ken Cryer of the manor house and Ken's small son Jemmy, who was with the wily little Mona Staveley when she discovered Nanny lying in the woods, too far for the woman to have walked there herself. By the time Bone fits the puzzle pieces together, with help from attractive Emily Playfair, mystery fans will be reluctant to leave the company of almost everyone in Saxhurst and hope for a series starring the likable sleuthing partners.

Needlessly intricate plotting and an uneven style cloud the English village atmosphere in this first novel by a pseudonymous pair of British writers. While the apt word appears quite often, frequent moments of awkwardness tend to stilt the whole. The discovery of retired governess Nanny Gray's body draws Det. Supt. Bone's attention to a wide assortment of suspicious characters. Some interesting moments, but not enough to cushion the rough going. REK

Cozy Procedural with Interesting Characters

British police-procedural com village-people. An elderly children's nurse has disappeared, her body is found, but it indicates death before the lookout was broadcast. Some loved her, others resented, several would benefit from her death, all with nice characterizations. In addition, the widowed policeman shows loving attention to his young daughter who is handicapped by the auto accident which killed her mother. A nice start for a series.

I've read other books in this series, about a British police inspector, with a teen daughter recovering from a crash which killed her mother.
Nanny Gray is the first in the series, so I wanted to catch up with ones I'd missed.
I find them well written.
